Workshop “Socialist Governmentality? Healthcare, technologies of the self, and subjectification in European state socialism, 1945-1990”

Berlin, September 13–14, 2023

What is Europe? When studying post-war Europe, the focus is on ideological divisions, competing economic models and on the different political systems separating Western and Eastern Europe. 

Prof. Judit Sándor was appointed as an expert in the Case of Karsai v. Hungary (Application no. 32312/23) at the European Court of Human Rights in accordance with Rule A5 § 1 of the Annex to the Rules of Court.

The conference was organized by the European Society for Philosophy of Medicine and Healthcare, the Institute of Clinical and Preventive Medicine of the University of Latvia, and the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Latvia. Over the last 50 years many methodological approaches have been applied by scholars in bioethics and philosophy of medicine with varying measures of success. The conference reflects on this experience and highlights debates on hard methodological problems and new exciting methodological advances.
