Péter Kakuk was born in Hungary, and studied Philosophy at the University of Debrecen, including a semester at the Free University of Berlin. He received a master's diploma from the University of Manchester, School of Law, where he participated in the Healthcare Ethics and Law program of the Centre of Social Ethics and Policy. He developed and taught various courses on bioethics, healthcare ethics, and law at the Department of Behavioural Sciences of the University of Debrecen, where he received his Ph.D. in Health Sciences and later a Habilitation in Research Ethics and Integrity.
He has been affiliated as an external researcher with the Center for Ethics and Law in Biomedicine since its establishment at CEU. He became a senior researcher at the center in 2019. His major research interests are in medical ethics, biopolitics and bioethics, behavioral ethics, and moral decision-making, he also conducted various studies on RRI and research ethics and integrity. He likes books that have something to do with these two questions: "How far philosophy and ethics can help us in making moral decisions?" and "How could we change the culture of science and research in ways that foster the re-humanization of modernity?"
He is a consultant for the Health Ethics and Governance Unit of the World Health Organization in Geneva on research ethics. He is a founder of the Embassy of Good Science platform and is currently the president of the European Society for Philosophy of Medicine and Health Care. He loves family, friends, food, and wine as much as music, dogs, tennis, and bikes.
